NEW ART RIP - SKINS FOR FIREFOX
UPDATE: I just found his DA account. He will be getting a civil but VERY firm request to remove my work - he's only 17! [link]
Hi to all my DA friends! I'm still alive and viewing your art, but having great difficulty with the Carpal Tunnel so this will be too brief.
I had planned to do a year end journal - NOT have to report an art rip. Hopefully I can do a new journal in a few days.
I decided to type my DA username into Google just now and hadn't even made it off the first page when I discovered THIS RIP! There are roughly 10,000 images in the abstract category alone - I believe a great deal of them are from DA!
Apparently our art is being used as "skins for Firefox". My "Crystal Cave" has been taken for this purpose - without my permission. I'm pretty angry about this one. It was one of my DD's. I haven't had this time to do anything but a VERY quick glance around, but I see other fractals and art as well, and I'm sure that quite a bit of it is from DA!!
What this person had done is "cut a strip" off our art work, and posted it, so in some cases you have to look more closely. It only took me a second to recognize mine.
Here is the link to the person's page. The username is, candelora [link] see a strip of my "Crystal Cave" there. Here's the link to the general abstract category: [link]
Here is the note I sent to this person's DA account:
"Hi,
Since you are 17 - according to your profile - I'm going to assume you are naive and don't know any better, about taking other people's art and posting it on another site - WITHOUT asking them.
The art on DeviantArt is NOT Public Domain art, unless stated as such - and it is NOT free.
In the legal world of copyright - being naive is no excuse - the courts don't accept that as a plea.
You have violated MY copyright of my fractal work, Crystal Cave by taking it WITHOUT asking me for permission - cropping it - and posting it on another site for download. THAT IS A VIOLATION OF MY COPYRIGHT.
All of my art is copyrighted and is NOT free and is NOT in the Public Domain. DeviantArt has a ccpyright notice posted under EACH deviation. I have a copyright watermark on my work.
Since you have been here 3 years you SHOULD understand copyright - or you should not be here.
I am asking you to IMMEDIATELY REMOVE my Crystal Cave work on your site. Here is the work. [link] you have other work of mine - please REMOVE THAT IMMEDIATELY also.
I am notifying all other DA artists whose work I recognize, that you have taken their art. I strongly suggest that it would be in your best interest to IMMEDIATELY start removing the thousands of images you have ripped from deviantArt - before people start taking legal action.
Please learn an important lesson from this.

I haven't even looked to see if there are any more of mine yet, but wll be checking. Pass the word on folks!
And a very HAPPY HOLIDAYS to you all!!
DESKTOP NEXUS - HOTBED FOR RIPPED ART FROM DA
After logging into DA this morning to read journals of my friends, I find that many of them have had their art ripped to use as Wallpapers on a site called DesktopNexus. The site is full of art ripped from DeviantArt. I dare say that much of the Wallpaper there, is made from art taken from DA. I have yet to find any of mine, but then my art is in storage.
I found an interesting piece of text on their site, after viewing a fractal (from DA) in which the signature is clearly visable on the thumb (but unreadable due to samll size) but on the large view the sig is cropped out. Here is how their "About Us" reads. Underlining is by me:
"What is Desktop Nexus?
First, let me ask you a question. If you get bored of your desktop background, where do you go? If you want a fresh wallpaper, where's your Amazon or Travelocity? There's no household brand-name to answer the endless demand for computer wallpapers, and Desktop Nexus aims to change that. We strive to build the world's premier source for high-quality desktop backgrounds.
However Desktop Nexus is more than the text you see on this website. Desktop Nexus is a community. We've built a passionate member-base around technology that does not drive this site, but rather supports it. Our technology allows members to interact, sharing real-time feedback with artists or photographers. It allows visitors to subscribe to RSS feeds and get notified whenever a new wallpaper is uploaded to one of their favorite categories. It takes every wallpaper uploaded by the members of this site, and automatically crops, stretches, resizes, and remasters the image to fit your screen size perfectly. Desktop Nexus provides a medium for members to share their desktop creations with the world.
There are many places online to find desktop wallpapers, but none can compete with Desktop nexus for the volume of high-quality, well organized wallpapers we offer.
--
We are obsessed in our dedication to build the absolute best source for computer wallpapers online, and if you have any suggestions, recommendations, feedback, or comments at all, we'd love to hear from you."
I strongly urge all DA artists to go to the site and look for your art and ask to have your art removed! Here are some links:

& i hope your health is good madame Anita..i have been busy with my engineering exams..i hope you a have a fabulous christmas
you shall continue to be a constant source of inspiration for me for almost everything i learnt since i joined DA!
Thanks once again
Wow! Lol! I found all kinds of stuff, most of it is of me at other sites, but there's a 2dazed at YouTube. Not me. I also found an interesting link that gives the IP of this site.
Thanks for letting me know about this guy Anita!
I hope it works out for you with that guy. Age can be just an excuse sometimes I think. You'd made him aware now. he should do the right thing, or learn the hard way.
I hope your holidays go well too my dear!
Interesting that it's always from dA!
But if you complain you get trashed by all sorts of people, and what amazes me most is that even some GM's promote the use of all those links - which have, beyond an iota of doubt, contributed to the ease with which stuff is getting pinched and passed on. Thankfully those have been made so that we can disable them, but too late for a lot of stuff that was passed on during the procrastination period.
Now in the UK, there's a move afoot to lighten the copyright laws in favour of those with no artistic status being able to use the works of others, even professionals, without permission or so much as a "how do you do"! This I do NOT understand!
You never see Renderosity or other sites cited as a source of theft.
I also found stuff attributed to me that isn't even mine!
These days I just try very hard to not let all this bother me. I'm not professional and make very little money out of my work, so it's not quite the issue for me that it might be for someone who relies on their art for making a living.
DN had loads of my stuff, all of which has since been removed after filling out DMCA forms. None of them are available for download any more, but even a couple that had never been available for download got taken and used, so "up yours" to the persons who think otherwise.
You have been very brave to stand out from the crowd and say your piece, standing up for your ideals, and for other people on here, and I really admire you for that. I didn't want to find myself in a position also of feeling the need to move off this site, so I didn't say a lot but enough, hopefully. That's what's so horrible, is that feeling that if you speak out you will get bad eggs thrown all over your face as a result - from literally anywhere, it seems.
Bottom line though, use dA and expect © violation. If it matters, don't use dA, or at the very least, cover your work in watermarks that immediately distract from what you're trying to show off!
When I can type enough, I want to do a journal exlpaning why I am "partially" here - it's really about my friends here and advocating for some sort of "sense" in the internet art world. I found out that my pages left here were still getting quite a few hits - even though I had NO images up and I felt bad, so I put a handful of my images back up with large watermarks, but I will not make them available for prints, because in the unlikely event that someone wants to buy one - I will not have any of my money going to suport DA. I haven't decided whether or not to renew my subscription. IF......I do it will only be bcause of my friends here - and in order to put images in my journal to illustrate any "causes" in the art world that I take up. I have been following your journals - but just not able to reply until now. You have had a "time" and so sorry to hear of all your difficulty! I hope that it comes to and end very soon! Have a wonderful Christmas/Holiday!
I probably won't be renewing my sub for this account, as I've now got myself well and truly involved on my other account and am co-founder of a group there too, which takes up loads of time, but I enjoy it.
Thank you for reading my journals, I appreciate it, and I do understand your inability to respond, so really, no worries
I wish you every blessing this Christmas, and for the year to come too. My love to you dear friend.
