This is a National Wildlife Refuge on the edge of town where many types of waterfowl stop over to feed and rest on the marsh on their way south in the fall and on their way north in the spring. It's approximately 2 miles long and perhaps half a mile wide.
There is a long forked boardwalk on one end to view the birds and in the summer the spawning salmon. It is also a place for moose and bears, so I always take my bear spray! It is one of my favorite places on the planet! This fall I was able to sit (because I was unable to stand) for an hour and a half and watch the wild Trumpeter Swans on their stop over - such a marvelous sight! I will post a few photos of them soon.
