Thanks so much for all the wonderful comments on Alaskas Quartz Creek! I truly appreciate it!
This was taken in the area of Portage, Alaska around 50 miles from Anchorage. This whole area sank during the great 1964 Alaska earthquake, as much as 10 feet according to some sources. (I was living about 400 miles from Anchorage at the time) The salty water from Turnagain Arm inundated the area, killing the spruce trees. The remaining bare trees still standing, are from that time. Our late 2008 April heavy snow was still on the mountains at the end of June when this was taken. It was a picture perfect AWESOME day!!
I am back at DA still on an intermittent basis for a while. I am doing better with the medical issues.
Due to severe Carpal Tunnel (goes along with Graves' Disease) I am not able to do very many comments - if at all. Breaks my heart, but I can't change that.
So just remember.......if I fav your work, with no comments.....I LOVE it!! Please accept my thanks in advance for your views, favs and comments .they are all very much appreciated!
And please remember......all of us as artists here at DA put in long hours of work to create our art. Have the kindness to request permission to use our work. ALL work here is copyright by the individual artist.
Thanks for the "wow" compliment! I AM lucky to live in such a beautiful setting! I really appreciate your notifying me of the link and that is very kind of you! I usually don't have a problem with links within DA - especially when people let me know - just when someone posts one offsite without asking for permission. There are some sites I wouldn't want links to my work on. Thanks again!
Awwww...thanks for your wonderful compliment! Yes.....I know how lucky I have been all these years, to live in such a scenic paradise! I love it as much today.....as when I first got here years ago!
This is some incredible scenery that you've managed to capture, Alaska has always been one of the places I've wanted to travel too but between there and Montana one is a lot closer to where I live. And since I've always wanted to drive I5 all the way to Alaska it would still cost a decent chunk of change even with gas prices dropping right now.
Thank you so much! Yes you're right....that is a heckof a drive! Years ago I did it from Alaska to the East coast.....twice....so 4 trips through Montana (including gorgeous East Glacier park).....so you too have some incredible scendery there! I think they've shortened the time now with new roads and a ferry that goes from Prince Rupert B.C. to Whitterier Alaska, about 50 miles from Anchorage. Much easier than the old day, but still not cheap with the gas prices. But oh how I loved THAT drive....it's outstsanding! Still I remember it took up 5-7 days to drive from Hope B.C. to Anchorage!
Whew that's a drive right there, Alaska to the East Coast. I'll have to remember to consider using the fairy system out of Canada and into Alaska if I ever go, of course I like taking the back roads. And seriously it took a week to drive from Hope to Anchorage, then again it is over 2000 miles and if your enjoying the scenery no point in speeding.
Hope you don't mind that I linked this to a deviation of mine here...
