Thanks so much for the views/favs/comments on “Alaska’s Turnagain Lupine”! I truly appreciate it!

In 1968 I and my “then” husband drove just a short little two track “road”…..parked and walked right up on the face of this immense glacier….the Matanuska Glacier. Today….tour companies have forged a long road to get people to the face of the glacier, because it has retreated so much. Just in my 44 years in Alaska, the retreat of the glaciers has been astonishing!

Portage Glacier, to the south of Anchorage, cannot even be seen from the parking lot now…..you must take a boat tour across the lake and around a bend. I have a photo of my then 10 year old daughter (about 1978), with the face of the glacier in the background and big blue icebergs at her feet. (can’t find the photo at this time or I would post it) Taken with my Cannon A-720 IS. It was a another AWESOME day!!
:-)

I am back at DA still on an intermittent basis for a while. I am doing better with the medical issues. :-)

Due to severe Carpal Tunnel (goes along with Graves' Disease) I am not able to do very many comments - if at all. Breaks my heart, but I can't change that.

So just remember.......if I fav your work, with no comments.....I LOVE it!! Please accept my thanks in advance for your views, favs and comments….they are all very much appreciated!

And please remember......all of us as artists here at DA put in long hours of work to create our art. Have the kindness to request permission to use our work. ALL work here is copyright by the individual artist. :-)

Hugzzzzzzzzzzz to ALL ............

Such a gorgeous state. It's all too true, yet I still run into people who believe global warming is a myth just because we in Florida still get cold weather from time to time.

Thanks so much Ginny! The whole place up there is just so stunningly beautiful! I have driven up there so many times over the years and NEVER tire of the drive. I used to just hop in my car and drive up there to the little old lodge overlooking the glacier......for lunch.....about a 2 hour drive! By the time you eat lunch and "drink in" all the scenery, and stop a bit to take photos.....it turns into a 6 hour lunch......but the best lunch I ever had! (and the most peaceful) :D  :-)

That's a shame but :wow: what a breathtaking view!

Are you a fan/supporter of Sarah Palin's?
Just curious. She captivates me.
I'm glad that she stood up for herself after the election instead of cowering into the background.
I have no problem with her being the new voice of the Republican Party and I'd certainly support her in any efforts to run for President. :flagus:

For me it's not a short answer, Ken. There are many things I admire about her....her "I don't give a damn how they do it Outside" attitude and her interest in rooting out corruption in Alaska...which by the way....came in with the oil industry, when the first leases were sold in 1968....I know.....I was here. I like her fighting spirit and her drive to think independantly, instead of following the crowd. She's very bright and I was confused when the interview with Katie Couric went bad....maybe too much "handling" by the McCain crew? I think she got a raw deal somewhere in there. Where I have a difference, is on the issue off women's rights....a very touchy subject area, which I choose not to go into. I have always been registered as an Independant, or Non-partisian voter since I first came to Alaska.....most Alaskans were far too independant then to be told what to do by a party.....especially anyone who did not live here! Survival was the most important thing. A very popular bumper sticker during the building of the pipeline said...."Welcome to Alaska...now go home"!! :D The newer folks up here don't remember that! I have been here 44 years....and came as a mere child, of course! I'd just as soon all "the fuss" die down and we go back to our mostly serene, quiet lives......Ah....but 'tis just a dream!! :D

"Welcome to Alaska...now go home'

That's about how I felt when I moved to Florida from Massachusetts when I was 12 (damn Yankee). I was eventually welcomed and accepted though. I'm back in Ma. I don't particularly like cold weather or winter but I'd rather it be 30 degrees than 95 and you've shown me that winter can be really beautiful.
I'm just missing a pretty stream.

Thanks for sharing.
